Ban Nong Bua Village
The village Nong Bua Tambon Rae, Phang Khon – Sakon Nakhon has around 1000 inhabitants, really has not much to offer for farang visitors that are passing by, but the Nam Oun Dam is very popular with locals from all over Thailand.
The neighboring districts are Wanon Niwat, Phanna Nikhom, Waritchaphum and Sawang Daen Din.
Nong Bua has everything what a Thai Mooban has. It has several Wat’s (Buddhist temples), a school, a kindergarten, a lot of shops to buy Thai groceries and buzz.
I moved about two months ago from the city of Sakon Nakhon with my puppy Sarah (Shizhou) to Ban Nong Bua to live with my girlfriend, Apple.
Nam Oun Dam
The Nam Oun Dam (เขื่อนน้ำอูน) is a water dam, managed by the Royal Thai Irrigation Department and was built to preserve water from the Nam Oun, a tributary of the Songkram River which originates from the Phu Phan Mountain range that covers . The good news is we never face the problems of not having water for our Hong Nam’s (toilet’s) as in most other Thai villages in the Issan region.
The reservoir is in the hug of a beautiful forest. Close to the dam is a small waterfall that is created by the dam’s outlet and it can be visited Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00 and provides a spectacular sight, particularly at sunset.
Short- or Longtime Resort
The Tantawan Resort is around one kilometer away from our village and I am sleeping some times at the resort as it gives me some privacy which you seldom can have when you are living-in with a Thai family.
The resort somehow is a bit rundown but for 350,00 Baht a night you can’t really complain much (can you?) as it has an air-condition that is functioning and the most important is you have peace-of-mind and the rooms are bug-free.
